to identify an actual record/segment (1 - 10)
associated with a given claim.

   NOTE:  During the Version I conversion this
          field was populated with data throughout
          history (back to service year 1991).
          For institutional claims prior to 7/00,
          this number will be either 1 or 2.  For
          noninstitutional claims, the number will
          always be 1.
